Giving and Receiving

Although giving and receiving is undoubtedly a hugely important part of life, it becomes even more significant at Christmas time. Christmas is a time of togetherness, and the giving and receiving of love and gifts with our family and friends.

Gift of Attention – Spend Time With Your Loved Ones

Christmas is all about spending as much time as you can with the ones you love. Give your time, and receive their love and communication. After all, how can you reconnect with your family and friends if you’re too busy to spend time with them?

Choose Your Gifts Carefully

A great example of giving and receiving at Christmas involves gifts. Of course, Christmas is about so much more than gifts, but a good way to show your family and friends you love them is by investing in gifts that they will genuinely appreciate. This will show them that you have really listened to and taken note of their passions and interests. Gifts don’t have to cost a penny – for example the gift of baking with your grandmother or taking your niece to a museum will create memories to last a lifetime.

Show Them You Love Them

Showing your love is essential at Christmas, especially if you don’t see your loved ones as often as you should. Whether you say the words “I love you,” or show them how you feel in a heartfelt card, it’s important to show your love at this time of year. If you give love, you will receive love back. It’s one of the most prominent examples of giving and receiving.

Contact Them Often

Being away from family at Christmas time can be quite difficult and rekindle feelings of loneliness and homesickness. Reconnect with your family by calling or Skyping them on Christmas Day. Showing someone that you are thinking of them over the holidays is a great way to give love, and receive it back.

The Christmas Spirit Year-Round

The holidays are a wonderful time to reflect on the value of family, friendship, and community. The warm and comforting feelings of the season don’t have to end once the tree is taken down. We can make a conscious effort to continue the spirit of giving and receiving all year round. Whether it is December 25th or a sunny day in June, be willing to give love, support, kindness, and attention to those around you. At the same time, be open to receiving these same considerations and inviting love (romantic love, passionate love, family love, love for humanity, and even self-love) into your life.

Giving and receiving love is simpler than you think. Showing someone you love them can be done in such simple ways, all of which will enable the other person to receive your love thankfully, and give it back to you. Happy Holidays!
